A Note From Ken

I have been involved in helping people for 20 years. In 1987 I received my degree in human services from the University of Massachusetts. During that time I had been working with refugee Cambodian teens in the local English as a Second Language program and had begun working with the mentally ill.

It was also during that time that I first realized that I had had been struggling with clinical depression since I was a child. That realization was the beginning of a decades long healing process. For me it also explained why I had always been fascinated with the mind, unconsciously realizing as a youth that mine worked differently than the average person’s made me want to know how and why the brain does what it does.

Upon graduation I began to work full time in an outreach program working with mentally ill adults living independently in the Springfield area. It was there I was exposed to how destructive it can be when the brain does not do what the mind wants it to. I learned this not just from my clients but also through my own experiences in dealing with depression.

It was about that time that I began my career as a stand up comic. Humor was an essential aspect of who I am and still is an integral part of my therapeutic philosophy.

Over the next twelve years I traveled the country as a comic, eventually settling in LA. During this time I helped in whatever way I could, whether it was emceeing fundraisers or doing free shows for rehab centers. But I knew in my heart as much as I loved bringing laughter to people I wanted to do more to feel that I was fulfilling my personal path of helping people.

With that in mind fifteen years ago I quit the comedy circuit and enrolled at the hypnosis motivation institute, America’s only accredited school for hypnotherapy. I graduated in 1996 with over 700 hrs of training and began working with clients. Over the years I continued to study extensively in hypnosis and self-hypnotic techniques, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Cognitive and Behavioral psychology, Guided Visualization Systems, Neuro-Somatic Synthesis, and Neuro-biology. I also began formulating my own techniques based on my client work. In 1998 I began to formalize these techniques under the umbrella of Brain Training Unlimited.

I chose that name because I truly believe that we have an unlimited potential to change if we are given the right tools, and because the mind can literally retrain the neural pathways of the brain and therefore the perceptions and response patterns of the brain. I realized that was I was doing was similar to what a personal body trainer does, except that I worked brain instead of muscle. I can give you the exercises, correct your technique, design a long range plan, motivate, and encourage- but in the end it is up to you to show up ready to do the work.

I am proud to say that for the last fifteen years I have helped many to reach their goals personally, physically, and professionally. Their success has been my greatest reward. I emphasize that it is their success, because I am only a trainer, a teacher, a guide. I can’t make someone change. I can only help you to learn and utilize the tools that can help you get there. The responsibility for success is in your hands. I am proud as a parent of all my clients and what they have done.

I am committed to doing whatever it takes for my clients to succeed. Years of experience and study enable me to be very flexible in my approach and I believe that is an essential ingredient in therapy that many newer therapists don’t have. Everyone is an individual and each client must be treated as an individual. There are no cookie cutter one size fits all solutions. No therapeutic modality is 100% effective for everyone. The approach must be tailor made for the individual.

It is for those reasons that I insist on doing a free phone assessment with any prospective clients. I have to know if I feel comfortable that I can help you and that you are a right fit for me, as much as you need to know that I can help you. If I don’t think I would be a match for your needs I am happy to do what I can to refer you elsewhere.

I understand that any time someone is contemplating change it is a daunting thing. The fear of the unknown, even it is a positive outcome, is ingrained in us all. My pledge to anyone that is brave enough to take that first step on their journey is this: If you are willing to take responsibility for your success I am willing to do whatever I can to help you get there, to treat you as an individual, to do it in an environment that is safe, friendly and filled with humor, and to focus everything I have learned in over a decade of helping people on making you successful in reaching your goals.

You are reading this because you are thinking something needs to change, and you are ready to find out how. You have taken the first step. You can follow through by taking the next step and calling me today at (818)209-2014. If I am with clients I will get back to you generally within 24 hours. I will give you a free assessment based on what you want to achieve. And I will tell you if I can help you.

Remember, it takes courage to take charge of your life.

I respect the courage it takes to make that call, and I look forward to talking to you.

Do it now
